Learning Piano Improv — Tips

Posted in Uncategorized by Jim Beattie on 13 July 2010

To get my blog started, I’m going to post a series of “tips and tricks” that are aimed at helping improvising pianists on their learning journey. If enough people find these useful, they may become the main focus of the blog. Some of these posts will assume that you already know quite a bit about the piano, as well as about improvising and music theory in general, so they’re mainly aimed at the intermediate to advanced improviser. I’m also hoping to introduce a series of “getting started” tips and tricks that will be more useful to beginning improvisers, so if you can’t make much sense of these first posts, hang in there! Also, please feel free to contact me if there’s anything on this site that you don’t understand, or if you’d particularly like me to start the beginners’ series sooner rather than later.

Happy playing, and thanks for joining me!

Jim
